My personal “Top Three Medical News” from 2013.
NOTE: This is a programme for all, for the healthy, and for patients.
– The initiative “Choosing Wisely” encourages physicians and patients to think critically about frequently used medical tests and procedures and to talk openly about them.
The reason: Many frequently used medical tests and procedures are either unnecessary, or—in some cases—can even harm patients.
– A summit with medical societies, hospital organisations, and U.S. government agencies identified five treatments that are often overused.
– Flawed: the new edition of the “Bible of Psychiatry”. The new DSM-5 led to a heated controversy.
