Routine CT scans – as screening – for heavy smokers, who have no symptoms or signs of lung cancer: Routine CT scans in heavy smokers can aid in the early diagnosis of lung cancer and can lower deaths from lung cancer. But only in heavy smokers. Other smokers do not qualify. Do not demand routine CT scans if you are an occasional smoker or “normal” cigarette smoker.
