A legislative election will take place in Greece on 25 January this year to elect all 300 members to the Hellenic Parliament in accordance with the constitution. The election will be held earlier than scheduled due to the failure of the Greek parliament to elect a new president on 29 December previous year. According to the latest poll, anti-austerity opposition party Syriza leads for 4,2% over New Democracy, which is currently rulling in coalition with PASOK. Katja Lihtenvalner, who is regularly following Greek political scene and is a correspondent for several Slovenian newspapers, argues that Syriza’s potential victory could bring historical, political and social turn. But before – why Greeks aren’t satisfied with current coalition, and why Syriza would be or is a better option for Greece.
