The SITAR in Popular Music

The Sitar is a South Asian instrument dating back centuries but not introduced into Western popular music until the mid 1960’s. Tonight’s show focuses on it’s influence following George Harrison of The Beatles use of the sitar in Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) on Rubber Soul through to it’s use by a lot of modern bands playing psychedelic music.

Some bands featured in the show are: The Beatles, Annanda Shankar, Dave Pike Set, Shocking Blue, Traffic, Tomorrow, Kikagaku Moyo, BECK, Elephant Stone, The Demon Parade + more!
