This is the first episode of the speciAlps Podcast series “Guiding visitors, preserving the nature experience”.
When we explore nature in the Alps, we leave traces – in the real world and in the digital world. The first podcast episode explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can help guide visitors away from sensitive or congested places. AI is nothing new, but the amount of data and increasingly efficient algorithms are opening up new possibilities, says Karolina Taczanowska of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. “In tourist destinations today, AI can already predict congestion and bottlenecks of use.” The other two podcast guests Vešna Kobal and Urška Starc Peceny from the company Arctur explain how the use of AI could relieve Slovenia’s tourist hotspots, based on the “Mountaineering 4.0” project.
