Violence against women is widespread everywhere, not only in Latin America but everywhere. That’s why we occupy the street, to show anger and resistance. When we are at demonstrations, we also bring joy, dance, celebrate that we are alive, and thus show those systems of oppression, the patriarchal and capitalist system, which want us to be alone and sad, that we are not victims. We fight together, we take care of each other, and we build a community of resistance and pleasure.

In difficult times, let’s remember what our ancestors told us, let’s develop a culture of healing and nurturing, and a culture of resistance especially to racism and nationalism, patriarchy and colonialism, and capitalism.

Susana Ojeda is an anthropologist, filmmaker, and activist based in Vienna. Since 2011, she has been making independent short films and visual documentation about artistic projects, activist actions, and social processes with her co-owned production company estudio elgozo.
