We are getting to be on that home stretch. FINISHING up Book three of Patanjali’s YOGA SUTRAS today…: Vibhuti Pada: The Portion on Supernatural Abilities and Gifts. This book focused on the supernatural abilities (siddhis) gained from the practice of samyama. However, Patanjali makes sure to warn us that these powers are not the goal of yoga, they are the by-products ( remember sutra 3:38)

Vibhuti Pada is dedicated to the deeper progression of yoga practice, with a focus on the mind’s power to manifest. Sometimes controversially translated as ‘supernatural powers,’ Vibhuti Pada refers to the seemingly super-human powers or siddhis that can be achieved through dedication to the eight-limbed path of yoga. Other translations of vibhuti include ‘abundant,’ ‘penetrating,’ ‘mighty’ or ‘powerful,’ hinting at the notion that these so-called powers are not otherworldly, but in fact accessible to all.

And that last SUTRA of VIBHUTI PADA 3.56…

When the tranquil mind attains purity equal to that of the Self, there is Absoluteness.
