discusses the law of karma throughout separate lifetimes. The idea is that the current lifetime we are in becomes responsible for situations and roles we play in future lifetimes. This is because our subconscious stores memory and emotional impressions from our experiences in life. Since the same spirit, or purusa (soul) is the piece that continues into the next life, those impressions will still be there, but will affect how that spirit gets to experience that next life. Memories and impressions will affect the lineage or class of the manifested purusa. They will also affect the time and place of birth. States yogini on the bus about sutra 4.9
