In January 2026, representatives from 4lthangrund, Amerlinghaus, Radio Orange 94.0, Planet 10, Semmelweisklinik and St. Marx came together for a joint discussion on defending spaces of solidarity in Vienna. In light of rising rents, budget cuts and the increasing economisation of urban space, the conversation addressed the growing pressure on self-organized initiatives and non-commercial infrastructures. From plans for a mega event hall in St. Marx to subsidy cuts threatening the existence of Amerlinghaus and Radio Orange 94.0, participants examined how the demand for “economic viability” is undermining the right to the city. At the same time, projects such as Planet 10, 4lthangrund and the Semmelweisklinik demonstrated practical alternatives through collective organization, redistribution and non-profit cultural production.
The discussion focused on how to defend and expand spaces of solidarity, strengthen networks between initiatives and imagine a city organized around needs rather than profit. The event provided space for exchange, networking and the development of shared perspectives for a city for everyone.
The discussion was recorded on 26.01.2026 in 4lthangrund für Alle!
