Slavoj Žižek – „Freedom in the Clouds“
On December 3rd, the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek gave a lecture in Linz. The lecture was part of the series »relatifs« at Kunstuniversität Linz. The Audimax was full and turned out to be far too small for this opportunity!
»Through the digitalization of our lives, our freedom is more and more mediated through the digital „clouds“ which collect and control the data we exchange – so who controls the clouds? What does the struggle for the control of the internet space tell us about class struggle in global capitalism?«
Slavoj Žižek is a Slovenian marxist philosopher, psychoanalyst and cultural critic. He is considered as well to be a pop-philosopher and Elvis of the cultural theory. Žižek is a senior researcher at the Institute for Sociology and Philosophy (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia), international director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities and a professor of philosophy and psychoanalysis at the European Graduate School.
Žižek’s lecture »Freedom in the Clouds« was one of the lectures from the series »relatifs«, aligned by Karin Harrasser (Kunstuniversität Linz, Kulturwissenschaft), Anne von der Heiden (Kunstuniversität Linz, Kunstgeschichte und Kunsttheorie) and Kepler Salon Linz.
A lecture about Freedom (in the clouds), Superego, Recycling, Global Capitalism, Sex, Authorities and much more …
