A Ghost’s Radio is a radio arts theory and hands-on production workshop taught by sociologist & radio producer Karen Werner. In this two-day workshop in Vienna, organized by the Mobile Art Lab of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Poland, and Radio Orange 94.0 in Vienna, we will dip into social theories of ghosts, including Avery Gordon’s Ghostly Matters and Eve Tuck & C. Ree’s A Glossary of Haunting. We will attune our ears to the many real and imagined ghosts inside homes, attached to people, and in the streets and institutions of Vienna, producing radio pieces related to sounds and memories of the past and their reverberations in the present and future. Radio pieces will be broadcast and live streamed on Radio Orange 94.0 at 11pm on October 26, which is a national holiday, Austrian National Day, providing a potent context for the ghostly presence of history and memory.
