Patients with atrial fibrillation frequently also have coronary artery disease. In the treatment of such patients for their atrial fibrillation: Less is more. The conclusion from a large clinical study is that apixaban plus clopidogrel (these are two drugs, as opposed to three drugs) is sufficient in patients with atrial fibrillation and recently symptomatic coronary artery disease. The conclusion from another large clinical study is that rivaroxaban alone (that is one drug, as opposed to two drugs) is sufficient for patients with atrial fibrillation and chronic stable coronary artery disease.
The second medical news today:
Even small amounts of alcohol can cause cancer. Among women who did not smoke, one bottle of wine per week (less than one drink per day) increased the absolute risk for lifetime cancer by 1.4% (absolute percentage). Increased cancer risk in women particularly applied to risk of breast cancer.
