In the context of the project Art4Science, you can listen to a recorded meeting the scientist Eleni and of the artist Christina. In the 1st part, Eleni gave a brief summary of her field of activity and of the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research. The research topic of Eleni is the Ewing Sarkom, a malignant bone tumour that can appear during childhood, most commonly during the adolescence. Eleni explains the „Liquid Biopsy“ and its important role concerning the examination of Tumor DNA in the blood. This method allows conclusions about disease progression. Furthermore the access to this therapy is easier and more gentle than a biopsy of the tumour.

Talk 13: Flüssig-Biopsien und Herausforderungen / Teil 1

Im Rahmen des Projekts Art4Science trafen einander die Künstlerin Christina und die Wissenschaftlerin Eleni. Im ersten Teil des Gesprächs gab Eleni eine kurze Übersicht über die St. Anna Kinderkrebsforschung und über das Arbeitsgebiet der Forscherin. Sie beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit dem Ewing Sarkom, einem bösartigen Knochentumor im Kindesalter, der am häufigsten bei Jugendlichen auftritt.
Eleni erklärte die Bedeutung der „Liquid Biopsy“, mit deren Hilfe Tumor-DNA im Blut untersucht werden kann, was wiederum Rückschlüsse auf den Krankheitsverlauf zulässt und als Methode viel schonender und leichter zugänglich ist als eine Tumorbiopsie. Das Gespräch wurde in Englisch geführt.
