We’re still on waves, though they’re more southern than one thought: I find mysel surfing somewhere in Hawaii or just chilling on the beach with some locals. Of course there’s dancing and just then the people change avatars and are dressed like long time ago and it’s jazz all of a sudden, and swing and dixieland! Any way you take it, long time ago / far away.
The story of Santo and Johnny (Farina) was the spark for this show, so of course “Sleep Walk” is playing and Chuck Berry and even Ramsey Lewis and Nat King Cole. J. D. McPherson and KAMAUU have been some of the nicer surprises these last few years and their retro sound seems, to me, to be rooted in the same soul. Speaking of which, Dave Brubeck is as “Unsquare” as ever.
