Nicole Atkins, crooner, old soul, has been compared to Roy Orbison, according to Wikipedia and she’s been a life-saver lately, as, to my shame, I only got to know „her“, I mean her music, lately. She’s been singing her soul out for a while, through every bone and vein, I think, through my own veins. As I didn’t hear her no-nonesense voice before, I had a relieving sense of freshness and honesty that finally allowed me to break free and dance like Elaine in the wee hours of the morning.
The freely-dancing quality of these tracks, as well as their bitter-sweet melancholy, that is understandable and yet far away and anonymous therefore universal, they are, to me, the eagle-view. The landscape alone makes the details appear smaller, even without wings.
