Should I stay or should I go? Young people and quality of life in the Alps | CYC podcast

Around 120 million people visit the Alps every year. The crowds leave an enormous footprint, as over 80 per cent of journeys are made in their own cars. Behind this is often the fear of losing control and uncertainty about being able to remain mobile. Yet it is perfectly possible to get from A to B by more climate-friendly means of transport such as train and rail, while still experiencing relaxed travel away from traffic jams and noise, as well as authentic encounters. This was demonstrated by the young people who travelled to and through the Alps this summer with “Yoalin”. The project from CIPRA celebrated its successful conclusion on 19 and 20 September in Innsbruck/AT. www.yoalin.org/
