       In Book I of his sutras, Patanjali outlined the various levels of samadhi, but it is not until Book III that he returns to the subject.  In between lies Book II with its 55 sutras devoted to the nature of yoga practice leading up to dharana, dhyana, and samadhi.  The law that is clearly outlined is the one of progression, or as the saying says, Everyone must begin at the beginning.
