A Shift in Foreign Policy Thinking

At a Panel Discussion in the Austrian Parliament, three feminist experts were invited to present their views on Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP): Ann Linde as former Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kristina Lunz from the perspective of civil society and Toni Haastrup from the position of academia. 15 countries worldwide have introduced Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP) so far.

In the first part of the Global Dialogues, the concept of FFP is explored with regards to the experiences of its first implementation in Sweden in 2014. Special attention is given to the question of FFP in times of crises and reflections on examples from the international arena. Does FFP have the power to transform foreign policy and what impact could it have with regards to countries at war and oppressive authoritarian regimes?

In the second part of the program, we dive into the the relationship between the Global Majority and the Global South. Toni Haastrup held a workshop on the postcolonial perspective on FFP in which different feminist approaches were also discussed. Additionally, Toni Haastrup summarizes some of her critical positions in an interview.

The evaluation of Sweden’s implementation of FFP shows a way forward. To conclude, the three experts give an outlook on the future development of FFP.
