AIM is very important because it was established just at the moment when Ex-Yugoslavia disintegrated. At this time no reliable information was available and AIM could offer it by using a computer based network of independent journalists from the whole region. It was the only mechanism that enabled information exchange. Not just news but mainly feature articles could be distributed to small independent media.

The main aim from the beginning was to establish a normal communication flow and to support small and provincial media. AIM is an information network that operates without an editor-in-chief, there is only one supervisor who controls the quality of the articles.
