LGBTIQ people in Kazakhstan face harassment and violent attacks by society, homophobic groups and the government. Last year the government passed an anti-LGBTIQ-propaganda-law which makes it impossible to talk about being queer in a positive way. In an environment of increasing authoritarianism, the youth-led initiative Queer Kazakhstan is defending human rights especially of LGBTIQ people. Radiomaker Andreea Zelinka talks with Temirlan, one of the co-founders of the initiative, about defending human rights in Kazakhstan, and what Austrians and Europeans can do to act in solidarity with queer people there.
