Christian Kapun on Music Education and New Perspectives

In this edition of Club9 aired live on Freies Radio Salzkammergut on August 20, 2026, we talk with Günter Kaindlstorfer, journalist, writer, literary critic and moderator, and a familiar voice of Ö1, 3sat, Bayerischer Rundfunk, SWR, WDR, NDR, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and SRF (Switzerland).

For this special one-hour conversation, Günter has chosen some of his favourite songs from the 1930s to the present day. Each song opens a door to a different memory, story or period of his life. He talks about the musicians, the history behind the songs, and the personal meaning they have acquired over the years.

We listen to Tommy Dorsey, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and Caterina Valente, and talk about love and what it means to us.

We travel to France with Charles Trenet and Joe Dassin, visit Germany with Hannes Wader, Reinhard Mey and Dota Kehr, and return to Vienna with Michael Heltau’s ballad about the Novak family.

The mood becomes more thoughtful and melancholic with Vladimir Vysotsky’s „He Never Came Back from the Battle“, before the programme closes with Reinhard Mey’s „Die Zeit des Gauklers ist vorbei.

An hour of music, memories, nostalgia and sentiment — and a personal journey through songs that have remained with Günter Kaindlstorfer throughout his life. The program was produced in the German language.

Tracks played in the program:
