This edition of Club9 welcomes Erika Pichler, a journalist who writes for Die Presse and earlier for the Salzburger Nachrichten, a court interpreter and translator of Russian and Bulgarian, and who studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
Erika shares some of her favourite pieces of music and the stories behind them. Her selection ranges from John Dowland’s Come Again, performed by Sting and Edin Karamazov, to Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 with Friedrich Gulda and Claudio Abbado, Gabriela Montero’s improvisations on Bach, Andrej Kozlovsky’s song Erika, Tuvan throat singing by the Alash Ensemble, and Stefanie Werger’s I wü di g’spian.
Throughout the conversation, Erika reflects on the personal significance of these pieces and musicians, exploring life experiences, freedom, and rebellion in the world of classical music. She also discusses how her musical education influenced her later career in journalism, alongside other stories and reflections.
