Filipino language teachers on how to learn, to speak and to improve Tagalog.

Anyone who grew up in a Filipinos household can certainly speak several languages. Tagalog is spoken at home, English is used as the working language at school or at work and if you come from a different region or even have a migration background, you can also speak a dialect or another (Filipino) language. The fact is, however, that many of today’s youth can no longer speak fluent Tagalog, but rather Taglish (i.e. a combination of Tagalog and English). Language is an important part of one’s own identity. Many Euro-Pinoys would have liked to learn Tagalog from their parents when growing up. In adulthood, they long for it and seek for Tagalog language courses, to get to know their own roots and also to get to know themselves. In this episode of “Euro-Pinoy Talks” Filipino language teachers from Europe (Germany, Italy and UK) talk about how to learn, to speak and to improve Tagalog language skills.

Host: Ralph Chan (Sentro ng Kultura at Wika ng Austria at Pilipinas/Zentrum für österreichische und philippinische Kultur und Sprachen)

Panel:

Vincent Wongaiham-Petersen, Germany

Jillian Loise L. Melchor, Italy

Anna-Luisa Crespo (Luigi), UK
