Whispers of Midwinter – Classical and Neoclassical Sounds of 2025

In this edition of Club9 aired on Jun 4, 2026 I meet conductor Alexander Rindberger to talk about his musical career, the Salon- und Streichorchester Bad Goisern, and the upcoming production of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana in Bad Ischl.

The conversation explores Alex’s path to conducting, the role of local ensembles in the cultural life of the Salzkammergut, and the challenges and rewards of bringing together orchestra, choir, children’s choir, and soloists for a large-scale production.

The program also takes a closer look at Carmina Burana itself: its medieval origins, Carl Orff’s fascination with the texts, and how a collection of poems about fate, love, springtime, and earthly pleasures became one of the most recognizable works in classical music.

Musically, the broadcast moves between two contrasting worlds: the elegance and charm of salon music and selected excerpts from Orff’s monumental masterpiece, offering a glimpse into the remarkable stylistic range that music can encompass.

A conversation about music, community, and one of the most enduring works of the twentieth century.

Tracks of music used in the program:
