The 13th edition of Innuendo 2015 was by no means an unlucky one; quite the contrary; I had the pleasure and honor to interview Kevin Brown, Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Applied Sciences Sankt Pölten since April 2015. Adopted into a rural working class family in England, Mr. Brown is bringing our students a luggage of personal and professional experience, as well as a fresh approach to social work, more generous and overarching. This is due in part to the new definition of this discipline, that now „promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance well-being“. We realized, in our one-hour conversation, that a social worker IS a fighter through and through, and we accentuated this „good fight“ with the Klezmetics, Julie Fowlis, Ewan Maccoll, but also Illapu and Silvio rodriguez.
